Garlic Tofu

This is really quick and easy with minimal ingredients used. I love garlic (and I'm hoping you do too), so we’ve got used different types here: fresh and the powder version. The extra firm tofu and cornflour will really help it to crisp up, so don’t substitute these ingredients!

Honey, soy and garlic were made to eaten together, so this classic dish will definitely be a crowd pleaser.

Garlic Tofu

What ingredients do you need for this dish (includes possible substitutions)?

Extra firm tofu: use extra firm tofu here to ensure it crisps up well!

Cornflour: also helps the tofu crisp up.

Garlic powder: I love garlic powder and will put it on anything, but if you don’t have it to hand then this can be left out, although it’ll be slightly less delicious…

Light soy sauce: essential for seasoning!

Honey: gives the sauce a slight sweetness and adds to the texture.

Ginger: can be left out if you want!

Garlic: add as much as you like!!!

What to serve this with?

This is great served with a side of vegetables and some rice.

Garlic Tofu

Instructions

Prepare the tofu

Dry the tofu well then mix the tofu pieces in the cornflour and garlic powder. Preheat your air fryer to 190c and cook for 10-15 minutes until crispy. If you don't have an air fryer it can also be cooked in the oven at 220c/200c fan but it'll take about 25-30 minutes.

Fry the garlic

In a medium sized frying pan in a low-medium heat, add the ginger and garlic. Cook for 2 minutes, until golden.

Add the soy sauce and honey

Reduce the heat to low then add the soy sauce and honey. Stir until evenly combined. Pour in the tofu pieces, stirring well to coat each piece in the sauce. Enjoy!

These tofu tacos have all the textures - they’re crunchy, sticky, creamy and soft. The tofu is coated in a spiced honey sauce, then it’s topped with an avocado cream and fresh pickled red onions.

The vibrant green colour makes it feel perfect for spring or summer, and it’s a great sharing dish with some crusty bread. I’d definitely recommend topping this with crumbled feta, some chopped dill and extra virgin olive oil.
